English language

English language proficiency skills are not required for admission to any of the majors of the Applied Science College. However, the student must study an intensive English language program consisting of two general (English language) courses:


 

 

ENG 101 (General English 1):

  • 5 credit hours (20 hours weekly) that are taken in the first semester of the student’s study
  • However, the student can be exempted from studying this course if he/she obtains a score of no less than 21 in the Oxford Placement Test or its equivalent in other English Proficiency Tests as follows:

ENG 102 (General English 2):

  • 5 credit hours (20 hours weekly) that are taken in the second semester of the student’s study.
  • However, the student can be exempted from studying this course if he/she obtains a score of no less than 60 in the Oxford Placement Test or its equivalent in other English Proficiency Tests as follows:

Students will not be able to enroll in any specialization subjects unless he/she passes the English Language Program. Therefore, ENG 102 (General English 2) is mandatory before enrolling in all specialization courses.

 
In addition to the General English Language Proficiency Courses (ENG 101 & ENG 102)
  • students who are majoring in health science must study the medical terminology course (ENG 103 – English for Health Sciences) of 3 credit hours weekly.
  • However, students who are majoring in computer science must study the specialized English language course for computing (ENG 105 – English Language for Computing) of 3 credit hours weekly.
